Time entry in your timezone 🌎

When entering time in TopLeft, times are now handled according to your local timezone. For users in a different time zone than your ConnectWise or Autotask application, that means no more adjusting your times to the PSA's time zone. 🎉

For users in the PSA's time zone, you will notice no change and don't need to do anything different.

We will be making the same change to the dispatch/service call dialogs within the next week.

New account permission needed for Autotask

TopLeft needs new permissions granted for its API member in Autotask in order to continue downloading UDF fields for tickets.

Please update the TopLeft account's security level by adding the "Application-Wide (Shared) Features (Full Access)" permission.

For full instructions, such as how to navigate to the Autotask settings where this is found, see the knowledgebase document for Autotask API member setup.

Autotask is shutting down their SOAP API, so TopLeft is changing to use their REST API, and this permission is required to download UDF records using the REST API. At the moment it is only necessary for ticket UDFs, but we expect this permission to be necessary for UDFs on other types of records as we migrate to using the REST API all Autotask data.

Easily track running timers

If you've lost track of the card with a running timer, or have more than one started timer, now there's an easy way to find the running timers.

Just click this icon in the main menu:

The Kanban columns will scroll to show you the running timers.

If you have multiple started timers, click the icon multiple times to scroll to each one in turn.

Manage Administrators in TopLeft

TopLeft administrators can now add and remove other administrator accounts.

To use the new invitation tool, click Admin in the main menu, then Administrators.

New administrators will receive a welcome email and a series of messages explaining their new privileges and best practices for TopLeft.

TopLeft App Updates- March 2021

Here's a summary of the improvements we made to TopLeft in March.

Improvements

  • Drag cards diagonally- so you can change ticket assignments and statuses with a single operation.
  • Automatically start timer and/or open time dialog- after dragging tickets
  • Easily invite new users to TopLeft
  • New administrators and users are sent a series of instructional emails to help them more quickly understand how to best use TopLeft and take back control of their work.
  • New users have a special page for setting their password before logging into TopLeft for the first time.
  • New administrators and users are sent to a welcome page that introduces TopLeft.
  • Some types of records are no longer synced at 5-minute intervals, to reduce requests to PSA APIs.
  • New settings page- allows easier access to TopLeft configuration
  • To improve board performance, when the HIDE_COMPANY_FILTER/HIDE_ACCOUNT_FILTER option is enabled, the company/account options are no longer shown on the board filter pages.

ConnectWise mode

  • When insufficient permissions are available to enter time on a ticket, a more detailed error message is shown, to help users more quickly understand the potential problem.

Autotask mode

  • Note types shown in the note dialog can be customized
  • Show a ticket's contract on the card

Bug fixes

  • For card timers, various bugs were fixed and small improvements were made.
  • Fixed a couple of bugs related to dragging to the unassigned swimlane on Autotask boards.

Automatically start timer and open time dialog after dragging tickets

To make it even easier for technicians to track and record time on ConnectWise and Autotask tickets, now you can trigger automatic functions when a ticket is dragged to a column.

One or both of these automatic functions can be configured:

  1. Start timer on drag- after dragging a ticket to a column, the ticket timer starts automatically
  2. Open time entry on drag- after dragging a ticket to a column, the time entry dialog is opened automatically

These options can be configured independently on each column of a Kanban board. The most common usage would be for the In Progress column.

The options are available in the Advanced Options section of the column editor.

New Settings page

To help TopLeft administrators easily understand how to control the application, we've centralized a number of TopLeft settings in one place.

Administrators can click the Admin link in the main menu.

Then behold:

All future configuration options will live on this page.

No, this is not an April Fools Joke. 😀

Customize note types shown for tickets

For Autotask customers, you can select the types of notes you see in a ticket's Show Notes dialog.

To view and change the settings, administrators can click Admin in the main menu, then Note Options.

This can help your team stay focused on the most important notes. The setting applies to all users.

Invite your team to use TopLeft with this new function

When someone new joins your team and needs to begin using TopLeft, now it's much easier to invite them.

TopLeft can send a message such as this one:

Administrators can invite users from the brand-new Settings page. In the main menu, click Admin, then click Invite Users. Then select the users you want to invite.

New permissions required in ConnectWise 2020.4

For ConnectWise 2020.4 and later, TopLeft requires two additional security role permissions for entering time.

These permissions need to be granted on the security role of the TopLeft API member as well as the security roles used by members who use member API keys- for example, the "Engineer" security role.

Please grant these permissions from the Finance section, Billing View Time record:

  • Edit: all
  • Inquire: all

It should look like this:

If these permissions aren't granted, users entering time in TopLeft will see the error "You do not have security permission to perform this action."
