TopLeft App Updates - December 2023

Here's what we improved in the TopLeft app in December 2023.

Improvements

  • We now offer 5 client portal licenses for each manager license, as announced in November.
  • The email invitations for client portal can be customized.
  • When updating tickets, if you close the editor without saving a prompt is shown to help avoid losing changes.
  • Project Gantt charts identify the company of each project.
  • User onboarding steps have been simplified. Less information is requested from a new user.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed an issue related to timezones that impacted the dispatch tool in certain cases.
  • In Autotask project Gantt charts, projects are ordered by the start date recorded by TopLeft. This date can differ from the start date in Autotask because Autotask doesn't permit changing the start date of an ongoing project.

Project Gantt Charts Identify Companies

We've made a small improvement for those who use the project overview Gantt charts- now each project's company is shown beside the Gantt chart.

This makes it a lot easier to see what clients you're working for, especially when you have a lot of projects or projects with the same name for different companies.

Preventing Lost Edits

While editing tickets in TopLeft, you may have made changes but accidentally closed the editor before saving, thus losing your edits.

Now TopLeft prompts you if you close the editor with unsaved changes.

By the way, this doesn't apply to the time and notes tab. Because it can be useful to write part of a note, then edit other tickets, and then return to finish and submit the note, TopLeft automatically saves your unfinished notes. It doesn't prompt when leaving with a partially finished note or time entry.

Customize Client Portal Invite Emails

When you invite clients to the client portal, now you can customize the emails TopLeft sends.

You can change the sender name and email, subject, and the plain text and HTML body.

To make changes, administrators can click the gear icon in the main menu, then Client Portal, then Customize Invitation Emails.

Read about it in the knowledgebase.

PS We recently reduced the price of client portal licenses to $12/company/month, making it much more cost-effective to deploy client portal to all your customers!

TopLeft App Updates - November 2023

Here's what we improved in the TopLeft app in November 2023.

We have made changes to plans and pricing. Read the announcement for all the details.

Improvements

  • When there are many Kanban boards, the main board menu now scrolls.

ConnectWise

  • Improved validation of member API keys when they are submitted, to prevent invalid keys from being saved.

Autotask

  • In client portal, a client can now see projects that belong to child accounts of their account. This makes the portal more useful for your large clients that have complex corporate arrangements.
  • On Kanban boards you can navigate using keyboard shortcuts.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed an issue in the ticket editor status selection tool that resulted in an extra status option appearing.
  • Fixed an issue in Gantt charts for Autotask that could prevent some tasks from being shown for a project.

Upcoming Plan and Pricing Changes in 2024

Thank you for using TopLeft! We wanted to tell you about upcoming changes we’re making to plans and pricing.

Here’s a quick summary:

  • We’re renaming the plans to more clearly indicate the type of role each one is for
  • Pricing on user licenses is increasing, but you can lock in the old prices with a 1, 2, or 3 year term.
  • Pricing on client portal licenses is decreasing by a lot so you can use the portal across more of your customer base, and we’re starting to offer free portal licenses with manager licenses.
  • We’re discontinuing legacy plans and moving customers on those plans to the new flexible licensing plan, and there’s no price change as a result of this migration.

Consistently Adding Value

We haven’t changed prices on our most commonly-used products in more than 2½ years, but we’ve been constantly adding features and making improvements. Some of those improvements include Gantt charts, customizable branding, a vastly improved ticket editing and time entry experience, assignment notifications, and showing ticket attachments.

We’ve also added new training packages and now have a dedicated customer success representative to help you make the most of your subscription.

So we can continue to help your team work more effectively in your PSA, we’ll be increasing prices on user licenses.

What's Changing

Here’s what’s going to happen through December and January:

  • The Premium plan is being renamed to the Manager plan, and the monthly price is increasing from $75 to $92. Since we launched the Manager plan last year, we added Gantt charts, and now we’re including 5 client portal licenses with each manager license to help you get started improving your client communication using the portal. New prices apply January 1.
  • The Standard plan will now be called the Engineer plan, and the monthly price is increasing from $30 to $37 for ConnectWise and from $27 to $34 for Autotask. New prices apply January 1.
  • The Basic plan is being renamed to the Viewer plan, and the monthly price is increasing from $10 to $13. New prices apply January 1.
  • The price of client portal licenses is being reduced from $27/client to $12/client, with volume discounts as low as $7/client at 50 licenses. We have some customers deploying the portal for all their clients, and we want to make this possible for all of you. This is effective immediately.
  • We are discontinuing our legacy plans that required all users to use the same license, either Standard or Basic. For those still on a legacy plan, we will migrate your subscription to the new flexible plan in mid-December. This means you’ll be able to purchase licenses from multiple tiers, not just one tier. When we make this change, you’ll see some emails from our billing system but your payment method won’t be charged. In the new plan you might be in a higher-discount volume tier than the old plan, and if so you'll receive an account credit.

The prices for user licenses above are for monthly payments with no volume discounts. Prices for long-term payments and volume prices will change by the same rate.

How to Lock In Old Pricing

We know you’ve seen price increases from many vendors this year. To help reduce the impact of our changes, we want to let you lock in the old pricing for a year. If you’re currently paying monthly, to get the old pricing until December 2024 just change your plan to annual payments prior to January 1. You’ll get the old prices for another year, and 2 months free as well! You can do this through the “Manage Subscription” tool in the administrative section of the TopLeft web app.

If you’re already paying for a 1, 2, or 3 year subscription, you can also lock in the old pricing for a full term. You can make a one-time payment and start a fresh 1, 2, or 3 year term. For example, if you’re 9 months into a 1 year term, you can pay for 9 months at the old price and your new renewal date will be in December 2024. To take advantage of this offer, just email “refresh my subscription” to sales@topleft.team.

For further savings, you can review your licensing in two ways:

  1. If only managers use TopLeft and you’re not yet using Manager licenses, consider if you can replace all your Engineer or Viewer licenses with a small number of Manager licenses. (Manager users can see work assigned to anyone- even members who don’t have their own TopLeft licenses.)
  2. If you subscribe to both Manager and client portal licenses, you can reduce or eliminate your paid client portal licenses because we will be offering 5 client portal licenses with each Manager license.

Thank you for your understanding, and thank you for being a TopLeft customer! We look forward to helping your teams see their work and find their flow.

If you have any questions, email sales@topleft.team.

Child Account Projects and Tickets Now Appear in Autotask Client Portal

In Autotask, accounts can be set up as children of other accounts. With this setup, an employee of a parent account may need to have visibility into projects and tickets in both the parent and the child accounts.

TopLeft's client portal is a great way to get this visibility. However, previously an employee assigned to the parent account couldn't see projects or tickets in the child accounts- only in the parent account.

We have improved the visibility in TopLeft client portal, both in the built-in portal and in the CloudRadial integration. Now an employee in a parent account can see projects and tickets in both the parent and child accounts. This makes it much easier to use client portal to improve customer communication for your large accounts.

Keyboard shortcuts for Autotask users

Autotask users can now use keyboard shortcuts to open the new ticket editing dialog.

Just hover your mouse cursor over a card and press the appropriate key for the editor tab you want:

  • Ticket tab, press e
  • Time and Notes tab, press t
  • Dispatch tab, press d
  • Files tab, press f

Or to open Autotask to the ticket, press a.

If you forget the shortcuts, just hover over the buttons in the button bar to see the tooltips. Or choose Help > Keyboard Shortcuts from the main menu.

TopLeft App Updates - October 2023

Here's what we improved in the TopLeft app in October 2023.

Autotask

  • We launched the new ticket editor for Autotask! Now service tickets are edited in a single pane in TopLeft. Before, each ticket editing action used a totally separate dialog. There are still a few improvements to come, including keyboard shortcuts to open Autotask or specific tabs, and using the editor for project tasks.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed an issue that prevented ConnectWise member API keys from being saved the first time they were submitted.

Improved Ticket Editing for Autotask

We're making it easier and faster for Autotask customers to edit tickets and enter time on tickets. We already introduced the new editor for ConnectWise customers, and now we're launching it for Autotask.

Instead of editing tickets in many separate dialogs, all editing functions are now combined into one screen with a few tabs.

Additionally, there a few different ways to open the dialog, and repetitive tasks are streamlined. If you don't like the row of buttons on each card, you can turn this off in your personal account settings.

Let us know what you think!

This improvement will be rolled out to Autotask customers over the next few weeks. If you don't see it in your application right away, but would like to use it ASAP, email help@topleft.team and we'll move you to the front of the upgrade list.
